Zendesk is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to contribute to our leading Customer Service Platform used by over 400 million users worldwide. Our product helps companies globally have more meaningful interactions and relationships with their customers.
As a Software Engineer you’ll have the chance to contribute to highly successful products such as our Apps Marketplace, App Framework and Embeddables Web Widget. You’ll also have the chance to work on new and exciting SaaS projects. We’re one of the few software companies in Melbourne with direct links to Silicon Valley, with our head office in San Francisco.
You’ll work in a fast paced, Agile environment where we push builds with short sprints and cycles. We champion best practice software development where you’ll have complete involvement in all aspects of the development lifecycle. We’re passionate about performance, code quality and solving challenging, large-scale problems.
What you get to do every day as a Software Engineer Intern:
Participate in the development of products and features at scale that will delight millions of Zendesk customers
Develop your skills with our core languages – Ruby on Rails and Javascript
Opportunity to work with ElasticSearch, Redis, React or Angular JS depending on the project
Write elegant, functional and usable code
Work collaboratively with small and nimble development teams on new features and product offerings for our SaaS products
Focus on developing elegant solutions to complex problems with the ability to present ideas, expectations and information in a concise, well-organized way to others
Write code that is thoroughly tested and testable
Work in a continuous integration environment using services such as Travis CI, Semaphore, Solano CI
Take ownership of your work – taking initiative in a highly collaborative environment with support from a mentor
Feel good and be proud of developing software that is being used to solve customer problems
You’ll develop your skills through pair programming, lunch and learns and lab days to experiment with new ideas. You’ll be part of a talented team who are actively involved in the tech community as we often host and present at tech meetups.
As our Melbourne engineering team grows in size, there’s the opportunity to be considered for longer-term positions as they arise. We’re looking for an intern to join us for 6 – 12 months.

About You
We’re looking for someone with a clear interest in Software Engineering with excellent problem solving skills. This includes students currently pursuing a degree (e.g. Computer Science), although we’re very open to applicants who aren’t at university. Candidates who have recently completed programming courses through other institutions or training providers can also be considered.
We expect you to demonstrate skills in building web applications and a passion for new technologies. Any experience with Ruby and Javascript is a plus but not mandatory. Experience working on personal / open source projects is also a bonus.
