The Youth Support Worker (YSW) is responsible for establishing trusting and effective case management relationships with at-risk young people and for actively supporting the Tumbelin Case Manager with all aspects of program delivery.

The Youth Support Worker:

  • Establishes trusting and effective case management relationships with Tumbelin participants.
  • Assists with Intake and Assessment of participants and administrative support to the Case Manager
  • Forms effective working relationships and works collaboratively with Adventure Camping staff
  • Models and fosters the Tumbelin Values: We’re here because we want to be here, the four areas of Respect.
  • Plans, prepares and facilitates outdoor and/or adventure-based learning activities in support of Case Manager
  • Facilitates the DRUMBEAT program (pending training) alongside the Case Manager.
  • Encourage positive living skills and harm minimisation of drug and alcohol use through demonstration and education

Selection criteria:
1. Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselling
2. Certificate IV in Mental Health (MH) Counselling
3. Experience in working with and providing support services to disadvantaged or at-risk young people with complex needs.
4. Skills and/or abilities that enable active participation in outdoor activities including overnight camps in wilderness locations.
5. Evidence of well developed interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
6. Evidence of computer literacy
7. Experience in implementing organisational values into daily interactions

Specific employment requirements:
1. Current C class driver’s licence and a willingness to drive for work purposes
2. Flexible working hours will be required including some after hours, overnight, weekends and intrastate travel.

Desirable qualifications and qualities:
1. Accredited qualifications and/or equivalent instructing experience in outdoor activities (e.g. camping, bushwalking, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling, cycling, etc.) are highly desirable.
2. Experience working with Aboriginal young people.
3. Experience working in a similar adventure therapy program.

Reporting responsibility
Reports directly to the Manager, Tumbelin
