Sitting within the Compliance Team in Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB), this position is responsible for the implementation of sustainable and robust controls to ensure Westpac’s compliance with domestic and global regulatory responsibilities, including those arising from recent OTC derivative reforms. This work will support the management of compliance risk associated with the Global Derivative Reform Project (GDR Project).
Your responsibilities will include:
developing the degree of technical depth necessary to become recognised as a Subject Matter Expert in the complexities (and the robust management) of compliance risk, including those associated with the reforms which are the subject of the GDR Project.
designing, implementing and monitoring aligned Compliance frameworks and controls with a focus on WIB including updating Compliance Plans to reflect regulatory change, designing Obligations, performing Inherent Risk Assessments, designing and documenting Controls and performing Design Effectiveness and Operating Effectiveness Assessments on each of those Controls.
providing specialist advice and guidance to business partners and other stakeholders within WIB in relation to the management of ongoing compliance obligations;
fostering genuine partnership with WIB and be able to demonstrate contribution to the achievement of WIB’s strategic priorities.
innovating and sharing best practice across WIB Compliance including continuous

What you need to succeed
2+ years’ experience in compliance role in financial services
Demonstrated technical knowledge relating to the operational and regulatory environment
Legal qualifications or experience highly desirable, though a current practising certificate is not required
Demonstrated capacity to design and implement robust and convenient compliance risk controls
Strong stakeholder management and mobilisation towards the achievement of compliance objectives
Ability to sow initiative and challenge with constructive solutions
Integrity and respect for others
Willingness to take personal responsibility for execution against shared imperatives.
