Java Developer (Mid-Senior) – Fixed Term

Virgin Pulse is looking for a Mid-Senior Java Developer on a fixed term contract to work on our global employee engagement and wellbeing platform until the end of this year. You’ll be part of a driven, client focused dev team, who’s mission it is to create the best consumer facing SaaS application for our customers to help them achieve and maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle.

You’ll be working closely with the teams Tech Lead and product owner to deliver a quality product that surpasses expectations of our clients and members, along with mentoring more junior developers and upholding, advocating and contributing to the Virgin Pulse development standards. While the primary team is based in Melbourne, you’ll also be interacting with the wider engineering team located around the globe.


Someone with:
An in-depth understanding of one of the two tiers of our application: either AngularJS (or a great understanding of JS) or Java
Experience in the design and implementation of REST API
Experience with Postgresql, JSON and TCP/IP
Unit Testing experience, including how to write a good unit test
Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills – you’ve probably studied Computer Science and have been programming professionally for a few years
Great communication skills (written and verbal) – you’re comfortable discussing software architecture for the features you’ll propose and can implement them cleanly
An ability to contribute to a technical discussion, which mirrors your ability to listen and learn from your peers
Experience working on the full web application stack – you’re not a sysadmin but you know more than enough to be dangerous

You should be familiar with:
Agile/Kanban, and Scrum methodologies
Scrum tools (Jira, etc.), Maven, Git, Linux (or how to get by in Windows)
How the web works, and love it
Continuous Integration / Delivery (Teamcity, Jenkins, etc.)
Hipchat or similar communication tools

These things are a bonus:
Hibernate / JPA; Spring or Spring Boot; Tomcat/Jetty; Cassandra; AWS/SNS/SQS/RDS
