About the team

An exciting job opportunity exists to join VicRoads Northern Region.

Based in the Projects Team in the VicRoads Bendigo office, this position is responsible for delivering important civil construction projects to improve road safety and integrated network flow.

About the role

In this role, you will be working in a team that is undertaking a number of functions such as implementing and monitoring road safety and road improvement works.

You will be required to prepare and manage surveillance plans for contract and quotation works including quality, environmental and OH&S activities. Ongoing engagement with Contractors and other stakeholders is also a requirement of the role. As part of delivery of construction, testing or inspection activities, nightwork and weekend work may be required.

What we are looking in a successful candidate:
more than 5 years experience in a supervisory position in civil construction works

able to demonstrate a good understanding of worksite OH & requirements & worksite environmental management;

able to demonstrate a good understanding of worksite traffic management requirements;

able to demonstrate a good understanding of conducting surveillance and audits on contractor’s records and practices;

able to demonstrate an ability to engage with key external stakeholders including contractors, road users and other relevant parties; &

must have a current driver’s licence.

Key Accountabilities

KA 1.

Exercise professional judgement to review construction works including service relocations, earthworks, pavements, drainage, surfacing, traffic signals and bridgeworks within a defined scope, in accordance with VicRoads policies and guidelines.

KA 2.

Exercise independent judgement to undertake surveillance and to participate in audits in accordance with business area objectives and surveillance plans, ensuring high quality documentation is maintained.

KA 3.

Exercise professional judgement in occupational health and safety and traffic management at worksites.

KA 4.

Provide advice to key stakeholders relating to engineering plans, specifications and contract programs.

KA 5.

Implement Occupational Health & Safety, quality and environmental systems in accordance with project objectives.

KA 6.

Use negotiation and influencing skills to reach successful outcomes with contractors / stakeholders.

Key Capabilities

KC 1.

Demonstrates knowledge in the application of construction practices adopted in construction works.

KC 2.

Comply with, and apply corporate requirements for surveillance, quality assurance and auditing as it applies to construction works

KC 3.

Apply knowledge of standard VicRoads and regulatory OH&S requirements for site works to provide advice to stakeholders.

KC 4.

Apply and demonstrate an understanding of the VicRoads contract administration practices

KC 5.

Prepare field observations and surveillance records in accordance with corporate systems.
