Temporary assignment Immediate start till 30th June 2017

Our client Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is seeking experienced/energetic outdoor workers;

  • Daily activity includes walking across a variety of terrain to visually survey banana plantations for symptoms of Panama disease tropical race 4, including over steep, rocky and slippery terrain.
  • Activities performed in a broad range of tropical weather conditions
  • Effective and rigorous decontamination of personnel, equipment and vehicles
  • Assisting field pathologists and Team Leaders to take samples of banana plant material

Weather permitting – full days Mon to Fri – full PPE

Excellent hourly rate

Location : – Moresby QLD

To be considered you must have below skills & requirements:

  • Must wear all provided and requested Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the manner prescribed which may include: foot wear, overalls, gloves, head/face wear, sun protection, insect repellent
  • Extended periods in a vehicle travelling to and from destinations
  • Limited use of cane knifes and corm borers
  • Accurate use of GPS and iPads
  • Ability to interpret property maps to assess plantations and plan efficient surveillance activities
  • Lifting – max. 12 kgs and carrying – max. 10-14 kgs
  • Forward reaching, overhead work, gripping, manipulation, sitting/standing, squatting/kneeling, twisting/bending, pushing/pulling
  • Decontamination of personnel, equipment and vehicles
  • Driving a manual vehicle on sealed and unsealed roads

You must also have the following key Capabilities:

  • Good attention to detail when conducting surveillance and sampling activities to effectively identify external and internal symptoms of Panama disease tropical race 4.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external clients to provide responsive, accurate and relevant information and services.
  • Works effectively in a team environment and exercises tact, diplomacy and discretion when required.
  • Learns quickly when facing new problems and is open to change.
  • Listening and capable of following specific and detailed instruction
  • Encourages collaboration with peers to solve problems and is seen as a team player and cooperative.
  • Utilises time efficiently by prioritising a broad range of tasks and focussing on key issues.
  • Has a high level of attention to detail in recording and data capture
  • Demonstrates a sound knowledge and understanding of confidentiality when exposed to personal information
  • Previous experience and physical capability to undertake outdoor field surveillance work including walking on uneven terrain and slopes in all tropical weather conditions
  • Previous experience in banana field preferred but not essential
  • ChemCERT accreditation AQF3 or ACDC licence would be an advantage

A current c class Queensland manual drivers licence is essential
