The Financial Controller leads and develops the Financial Control Unit in the delivery of strategies and processes to ensure effective and efficient end of year reporting, cash flow and treasury reporting and credit control to TAFE NSW.

Responsibilities Key Accountabilities

  • Work with key stakeholders in the development of strategies to meet the goals of the TAFE NSW Strategic Plan
  • Drive the implementation of the financial control strategies to meet the financial and accounting requirements of TAFE NSW.
  • Lead the Financial Control Team in the development of processes to ensure compliance with procedures, legislative requirements, accounting standards and governance guidelines.
  • Oversee the management of special initiatives relating to mergers acquisitions and capital investment funding.
  • Lead the design and implementation of advanced analysis to enhance management of capital, treasury, and compliance activities.
  • Direct the production annual statutory reporting and other key financial reports, to inform Executives and Senior Management in decision making.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with Senior Management in Financial functions, other TAFE NSW functions and external agencies to ensure awareness of developments and future initiatives affecting the operation of the organisation.
  • By example, lead the development of a safe, healthy and inclusive work environment, including implementation and review of appropriate strategies and measures.
  • Place the customer at the centre of all decision making.
  • Build and develop a high performance team, aligned to the core values of integrity, collaboration, excellence and a customer first attitude, through effective leadership, support and feedback.
  • Ensure your staff have meaningful and regularly reviewed individual performance management and development plans that are clearly aligned to strategic objectives and professionally develop the individual.

  • Degree qualification in Accounting
  • Relevant professional accreditation or certification, such as membership to the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants or the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing financial reporting functions in a complex organisation with particular focus in preparation and oversight of statutory financial statements
  • Thorough understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, Public Finance and Audit Act, Treasurer’s Directions and other government regulations, policies and procedures
  • or proceed with Standard Application Form.
