The duties of part-time casual teachers are essentially the same as a base grade teacher. As shown here: –

A teacher’s recognised function is to impart knowledge to students and develop in them the skills stated in the syllabus. However, the teacher fulfils a much wider function than this, particularly the technical teacher, for he/she now represents what may be the last contact with formal education the majority of TAFE students will experience. In short, the teacher’s task is to guide, to advise, to assist, to stimulate and to create a readiness to learn.

The teacher will seek to achieve these objectives by: –

Selection Criteria

Technical or Professional Qualifications

As a guide, appropriate vocation qualification/s include:

Recognised practice degree in an area of Community Services, completion of which required supervised workplace learning OR Relevant qualifications at degree level or equivalent and experience working in a community services role in more than one of the areas including:

Alcohol and Other Drug

Work Mental Health (non-clinical)

Community Development Protective Care

Community Work Social Housing

Disability Work Welfare

Family Support Youth Work

Lifestyle and Leisure OR Social science degree together with a practice based diploma or associate diploma in an applied community services field OR

Qualifications and experience assessed through an approved process of RPL /RCC as relevant and equivalent

Vocational and/or industrial Experience

  • A minimum of two years work in community services, at least part of which has been gained within the last 18 months, relevant to the areas of specialisation specified in the position advertisement and requiring a social justice framework of practice AND Comprehensive current knowledge of the industry and job roles and strong understanding of current trends and diversity within the Community Services industry
  • Common Core Criteria for Part Time Casual Teachers

  • Hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE10 Training and Assessment Training Package. Other educational qualifications may be recognised upon application
  • Be prepared to continue to develop their Vocational Education and Training (VET) knowledge and skills as well as their industry currency and trainer/assessor competence.
  • High level written and oral communication skills in English, strengths in problem solving and proven ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of educational, industrial or community environments.
  • Proven computer literacy, including sound experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs and the ability to use other specialised computer software systems.
  • Commitment and ability to facilitate learning in an adult environment and demonstrated organisational skills applicable to an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and demonstrated ability to contribute in a team environment.

  • Higher qualifications that have Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) embedded may also be considered.
  • If you do not hold TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification you must provide a transcript of your educational qualifications with your application so the panel can verify the above requirement.
