The St Vincent de Paul Society is a leading provider of community support services and has close to 100 Special Works across the State in the areas of homelessness, mental health, disability, financial counselling, supported accommodation, food provision, refugees and migrants and addiction counselling.     About the Service
    Compeer is a successful, award winning and effective volunteer program that has helped hundreds of consumers since 1995 reduce the stigma and isolation associated with mental illness through friendship and social support. Compeer matches people with lived experience of mental illness in friendship with a caring volunteer. One steady reliable and caring friend can make all the difference, bringing joy and hope into a person’s life. The Compeer model is based on the simple premise that people need other people in their lives to develop and maintain good mental health and well-being.

    About the Role
    The aim of the Compeer Program Development Officer role is to raise the profile of the Compeer Program through external relationship development to the benefit of Compeer Programs in NSW. The Program Development Officer is responsible for assisting Compeer Coordinators with all activities that promote and grow their programs, as well as the Compeer Program in NSW more generally. This includes providing connections and assistance in the areas of volunteer recruitment, communications, marketing, events and grants & funding.

    The role is also currently project managing (until 30th June 2016) a funded social activities initiative which involves supervision of staff/interns, managing budgets, report writing and funder liaison in addition to meeting the objectives of the project.

    Conditions of employment
    The conditions of employment are governed by the Social Community Homecare & Disability Services Award (SCHADS) (“the Award”) and the position and is classified as Social and Community Services Employee Level 3 . Due to the project management duties, this role will initially be paid at a rate in line with Level 4 of the Award until 30 June 2016, with hourly rate ranges from $ $31.7823 to $33.9855. After the completion of the project, the base rate for Level 3 of the Award will apply, with hourly rate ranges from $ 27.2963 to $30.5531.

    What you need

    • Relevant qualification or experience in community development, relationship development, communications, media & marketing, or other related disciplines
    • An interest & understanding of the social impact of mental illness in the community
    • Experience working with volunteers
    • Demonstrated effective communication, networking & interpersonal skills including the ability to articulate concepts and ideas to a range of internal and external stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds
    • Ability to research and identify opportunities that will benefit the Compeer Program
    • Demonstrated computer literacy, skills in the Microsoft Office suite, the internet & databases
    • A willingness to work within the mission & vision of the St Vincent de Paul Society
    • Current Australian Driver’s Licence
