Astron is one of Australia’s longest established environmental consultancies with over 30 years’ continuous experience in Western Australia. Astron provides a broad scope of environmental services to clients in the mining, energy, infrastructure, land development and utilities industries across six key service areas; Air Quality, Biodiversity, Contaminated Land, Geospatial, Rehabilitation and Water Quality. Our core permanent staff comprises experienced and well respected scientists, supported by dedicated HSE, Human Resource and Administrative teams.
To be considered for a role as a Remote Sensing Specialist in Astron’s Geospatial team you will need to demonstrate extensive experience utilising remote sensing approaches in applied environmental management, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. It is an office based role in East Perth utilising Linux systems and a variety of software. You will have experience applying analyses such as image classification, change detection, terrain mapping and image enhancement / manipulation to studies examining issues such as vegetation health, rehabilitation and landform monitoring. Consulting industry experience, and/or knowledge of UAS, photogrammetry or programming is highly desirable.

Requirements Reporting to the Manager Geospatial, required tasks may include:
- Managing or taking a lead technical role on remote sensing and geospatial projects.
- Sourcing and processing an extensive range of spatial data types to deliver analytical products.
- Communicating with non-technical environmental specialists and clients regarding technical requirements both verbally and through reporting and proposal development.
- Diligently manage large and complicated datasets. Develop new approaches to traditional problems that deliver more robust and cost effective solutions.
The role will work closely with existing Astron staff with support and mentoring provided to continue skill development.
Further, you must have strong written and verbal communication skills, be able to work effectively as part of a team and display a strong commitment to health, safety and the environment. All Astron employees are provided with mentoring, guidance and support from senior staff.
