Key Outcomes/Accountabilities The aim of this role is to:

1. Undertake financial performance audits and investigations, this will include:

  • assessing and prioritising complaints and referrals;
  • liaising with complainants, licensees, accountants and others;
  • undertaking financial audits as required;
  • monitoring compliance with licence conditions and other financial requirements the Commission may have of a licensee;
  • Assessing the circumstances surrounding the financial failures of Licensees and preparing briefings and reporting for management;
  • Overseeing the preparation of cases prior to initiating action on a licence, disciplinary proceedings, prosecution in the courts or issuing infringement notices & managing cases in progress to ensure appropriate outcomes are achieved.
  • 2. Provide expert services and advice concerning the Minimum Financial Requirements Policy and the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 , including:

  • Reviewing cases referred to Financial Investigations Unit, analysing the situation, preparing briefs for senior management, and recommending action to be taken;
  • Monitoring the financial restructuring of licensees, and the progress of insolvency investigations;
  • Providing advice to other QBCC staff engaged in compliance activities in respect to licensee’s financial standing.
  • 3. Provide exceptional customer service to all staff of the Commission and external customers.

    CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to apply and provide guidance on relevant legislation, policies and procedures on investigating, relative to assessing and taking action on financial issues faced by licensees including:
  • Business structures;
  • Accounting principles;
  • Financial viability and insolvency;
  • The application of ethical business practices; and
  • Management of creditors and debtors.
  • 2. Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to develop collaborative relationships and provide advice at a more senior level.

    3. Have sound financial investigative, analytical and problem solving skills, including a sound understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply them forensically.

    4. Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with stakeholders and work as part of a team to achieve desired outcomes.
