Oracle Database Administrator required for a 3 month contract About the Role
The Database Administrator’s role will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring and performance of critical database and Application Server systems, to ensure high availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications.
This role will support the current DBA team in operational tasks ensuring integrity, security and availability of Databases and Application Servers. This is a temporary position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills to perform support of Corporate Systems mainly Student Information System using database technologies of Oracle 11g/12c RAC Environments and SQL Server 2012/2016 as well as Application Server Technologies of WebLogic 10.3.6 and Tomcat.
Plan and coordinate data refreshes from one environment to another
Create Databases and Application Servers for the Modernization of Student Information System
Perform SQL Server operational task in a BI and SharePoint Environment
Follow and maintain documentation for repeatable processes, including Database /
Application Server feature installation and common problem resolution
Monitor Oracle License Compliance in a Virtualized Environment
Liaise with Developers and Act as “Gatekeeper” to implement changes according to Change Management Process
Troubleshoot and resolve database access and performance issues
Troubleshooting Database and Application Tier and document solutions
Monitor Database and Application Servers by implementing Nagios Checks
Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database
Monitoring of Database Backups
Some out of hours/weekend work may be required
Formal Education & Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in the field of computer science/engineering and/or 5 years equivalent work experience with Oracle database administration and/or Oracle PL/SQL development
Oracle 11g and/or Oracle 12c Professional Certification
Essential Skills & Experience:
5+ years direct experience in managing and supporting Oracle Database and Application Servers
Excellent knowledge and experience in Database Performance Tuning
Excellent knowledge with Oracle system tables and using PL/SQL
Knowledge in Oracle Enterprise Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server Systems, particularly in Scripting for automation of repeatable tasks (Shell Scripting)
Hands on experience with database security, auditing, backup/restore and high availability such as Data Guard (Physical Standby) and RAC
Experience in SQL Server 2012 / 2016 Administration (SSIS, SCSM)
Knowledge of Incident/Problem Management in a critical production environment
Knowledge in Oracle Engineered Systems and Oracle VM Server desirable
Experience in administering Banner by Ellucian or other leading higher education ERP would be beneficial
Experience in administration & maintenance of UC4 scheduler or similar desirable
Good written and oral communication skills.
Strong technical documentation skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required.
Highly self-motivated and directed.
Keen attention to detail.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and willing to enhance knowledge as required
