Technical Officers are responsible for carrying out diagnostic testing in an accurate, efficient and timely manner and assist with training of laboratory personnel. Testing will be both routine and specialised, depending on the laboratory in which the Technical Officer is stationed.

  • This position may require participation in a 24 hour, seven day roster including the requirement to work public holidays.
  • The ability to relocate to other Pathology West sites may at times be required.
  • *Westmead Hospital car parking allocation model is changing. There is a waitlist for parking for new staff commencing at Westmead Hospital. This does not apply for medical officer positions and staff with disability.*
  • An eligibility list will be created for future temporary and casual vacancies.

    This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases . All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

    Selection Criteria
    Minimum qualification of Diploma of laboratory Technology or equivalent with Pathology / Microbiology based subjects deemed appropriate by the employer. If qualifications are international, DEET, NOOSR or AIMS assessment of original qualifications will be re-quired at interview.

    At least 2 years of current experience working in a Clinical Diagnostic Microbiology Laboratory.

    Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written & verbal communication skills.

    Demonstrated ability to work accurately with attention to detail, and ability to prioritise responsibilities with minimal supervision.

    Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a team environment and to adapt to workload changes.

    Demonstrated knowledge of basic clinical microbiology procedures: serological, molecular and culture techniques.

    Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical testing laboratory accreditation in Australia.
