Senior Hospital Scientist In Charge of Section – Immunohistochemistry

Day to day management of Immunohistochemistry laboratory and staff including supervision and task delegation. The position will take the lead in test optimisation, workflow optimisation and the training of junior staff in Immunohistochemistry.
The aim of the successful applicant will be to provide a high quality immunohistochemistry service in a timely manner to the department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology.
The Department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Scientist to join their Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Laboratory in a supervisory capacity on a temporary full time basis. The position will oversee the undertaking of a wide range of Immunohistochemical testing and staining in a high throughput laboratory.
The incumbent of this position will have an outstanding knowledge base and extensive experience working in a busy IHC lab utilising Cerner LIS in conjunction with the Leica Bond range and Ventana Benchmark Ultra.
This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Diseases . All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.
An eligibility list will be created for future temporary and casual vacancies.
Tertiary qualifications of at least a Bachelor Degree in Science or an equivalent recognised qualification, relevant to Pathology, deemed appropriate by the employer.
An extensive knowledge of all aspects of immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, enzyme histochemistry and in situ hybridisation including staining techniques.
Knowledge of quality assurance, quality control and NATA requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of staff and external clients.
Proven ability to problem solve and prioritise workflow in a laboratory setting
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Legislation.
Proven ability to effectively motivate staff and demonstrated capacity to effectively undertake the role of team leader.
Ability and willingness to participate in on-call roster as required.
