The receptionist role will be ward / unit / based and will provide reception and switchboard support the Hornsby Adult Mental Health Centre. The position will support the work activities of nurses, medical staff and allied health staff, with locally determined shift times based on patient and ward / unit service delivery needs. The receptionist may provide reception functions across the health facility or to more than one ward/unit. The receptionist will work closely with existing administrative staff such as ward clerks and CSO’s at the ward/unit level. The role will complement existing roles, systems and processes in each organisation.

The receptionist will provide timely and accurate administrative services for members of the health care team on designated ward(s) / unit(s) / network under the direction of the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM). The receptionist will work under broad supervision but will be required to take some independent action. Scope exists for exercising initiative in the application of established work practices and procedures. Decisions affecting the overall functioning and management of the ward/unit remain the responsibility of the NUM.

The position is permanent full-time or permanent part-time, and is classified as an Administration Officer Level 2. Note that employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if the position cannot be filled on a permanent basis.

Selection Criteria
Demonstrate extensive experience undertaking administrative support roles and responsibilities

Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills, including accurate spelling, good comprehension, telephone skills, confidence in the spoken word and ability to deal courteously with a range of health professionals

Ability to demonstrate advanced knowledge of practical skills with MS Office products, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, GroupWise, Power Point and eMR with accurate word processing and minute taking skills

Demonstrated advanced organisational skills

Demonstrated ability to prioritise and meet deadlines with a “sense of urgency” under broad supervision and to undertake a diverse range of tasks as an effective member of a team in a high pressure, high volume work environment

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
