The BAMS Clinician will be responsible for the provision of behavioural intervention services to people with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia and / or Mental Illness (BPSD &/ or BPS-MI) and special needs in regards to behavioural assessments, education and research. The BAMS Clinician will be involved in leadership activities, education and research as well as the evaluation of BAMS in conjunction with the Program Manager SMHSOP, Clinical Director and SMHSOP CNC 3.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant or Occupational Therapist to join a dynamic and experienced Behaviour Assessment Management Service (BAMS) team responsible for the provision of behavioural intervention services to people with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia and / or Mental Illness (BPSD &/ or BPS-MI) and special needs in regards to behavioural assessments, education and research.

The position is permanent part-time 32 hours per week and provides specialist consultancy services to NSLHD mental health and medical facilities in addition to NSLHD consumers residing in Residential Aged Care Facilities.

This team reports clinically to the Specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service (SMHSOP) Clinical Director and operationally to the SMHSOP Program Manager.

This position is Permanent Part Time and is classified as a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Grade 1)/Allied Health Professional (Level 4)/Psychologist. Note that employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if the position cannot be filled on a permanent basis.

Clinical Nurse Consultant (Grade 1) Salary: $52.80 – $53.88

Allied Health Professional (Social Worker or Occupational Therapist Level 4) Salary: $50.90 – $52.17

Psychologist (Year 1 to Year 9) Salary: $31.79 – $47.26

Selection Criteria
Current registration as Registered Nurse/Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA). Nurses require a minimum of 5 years post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field. Occupational Therapists and Social Workers must have experience working as a Level 2.

Demonstrated experience working with people who have diagnosis of moderate to very severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia and / or mental illness (BPSD &/or BPS-MI) and demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Interventions and Behaviourial Care Plans for individuals with BPSD &/or BPS-MI

Extensive experience in conducting comprehensive behaviourial, mental health, physical health assessments and developing, implementing and evaluating Behaviour Intervention Plans and Care Plans based on person centred evidence based practice.

Demonstrated experience with research activities, developing and implementing education programmes.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and people from Government and Non-government agencies. Computer literacy.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of an interdisciplinary team and independently.

Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2007, Guardianship Act and National Quality and Safety Accreditation Standards. Current NSW driver’s license.
