About the role

Our Gateway Disability service provides a single point of access to specialist disability services and coordination for clients with a disability. We coordinate referrals received from the Gateway, provide support as requested through the targeted assessments and assist people with a disability to access the services they need to improve and maintain their quality of life.

As the Local Area Coordinator (LAC) you will be responsible for coordinating referrals and providing support to people with a disability and/or their carer/family. You will work to a person centred plan in conjunction with the person and/or their carer/family and have the ability to work with people with a disability who are facing challenging and multiple barriers. Ensuring clients referrals to appropriate services is supported and that their identified needs are met will be critical to seeing you succeed in this role.


  • Client Support – respond, support, monitor & advocate support for families in crisis
  • Relationship Management – develop & build strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Administration – identify, respond & record information in a timely manner, at all times

Qualifications & experience

  • relevant Tertiary Qualifications or Diploma in Social Welfare/Social Science
  • relevant proven industry experience in a similar role
  • demonstrated experience in engaging & working therapeutically with children and families
  • exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
  • understanding of the Disability, Child, Youth and Family Services sector and in particular disability, child and family
  • senior First Aid Certificate & current Driver’s License
  • strong alignment to Mission Australia’s purpose and values
