Following the success of the 2016 Jobs4Youth SA program, Maxima has been appointed as the successful provider for the Jobs4Youth 2017 program. The program will support the establishment of up to 200 entry-level positions in the South Australian Public Sector, effectively training and recruiting the next generation of public sector employees. Our client, the Office for the Public Sector, is seeking a recently or nearly completed Bachelor of Arts or other relevant Graduate to undertake a 12 month position with SA Health – Royal Adelaide Hospital – Hampstead Campus.
Applicants must have a minimum 3 year Bachelor qualification in a relevant discipline.
The Graduate Welfare Worker is responsible for the low-level and often time consuming tasks that prevent social workers from undertaking more complex and therapeutic interventions, such as assessment and counselling.
The Welfare Worker operates under a delegation model, receiving referrals from social workers. The welfare worker does not case manage, assess or provide interventions to patients.
The Graduate Welfare Worker will work under the supervision of: Ali Zoina Welfare Admin Coordinator and also support social workers and more experienced welfare workers based at HRC

The Graduate Welfare Worker will:
Work in a 2 person shared office.
Hours of work – 7.5 per day (37.5 a week).
Receive practical work experience whilst studying a Public Sector Fundamentals skills set.
Be required to satisfactorily complete a Background Screening and National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) prior to employment.

Key duties will include but not be limited to:
Referring to and liaising with social workers, other health care providers within the immediate team, patients and carers

Providing basic education on a defined range of topics to patients or groups of patients

Contributing to patient records and databases according to organisational and legal requirements

Providing a defined range of screening assessments as delegated by a social worker or social work team

Adhering to policies, procedures and guidelines with particular attention to professional boundaries, delegation and governance

Contributing to a multi-disciplinary team through departmental and team meetings, case conferences, team projects and activities

Undertaking quality improvement activities under guidance of a social worker
Under direction of social workers perform tasks including (but not lImited to):

Assist patients and their families with completion of forms and paperwork – not medical or insurance forms
Assist patients and their families to access hospital services, eg organisation of accommodation and travel
Liaise with external providers including aged care facilities, community and government services
Facilitate emergency financial assistance to patient and/or family
Assist social worker with case management tasks
The successful applicant must possess strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate an:

Ability to communicate effectively verbally, and in writing with staff, patients and community agencies

Ability to be self-motivated and to use initiative

Ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and to work collaboratively with team members.

Ability to negotiate, mediate and advocate for the patient as appropriate both in the hospital and in the community.

Ability to prioritise work appropriately with changing deadlines
