ABOUT THE TEAM: The Innovation and Business Development is responsible for the creation and delivery of business innovation and commercialisation to meet the strategic and operational objectives of the Lowitja Institute. Spanning communications, digital technology and product innovation, this team is responsible for converting the intellectual potential of the Institute into easily accessible and marketable product offerings sought after by customers and stakeholders alike. POSITION PURPOSE: As a member of the Innovation and Business Development Team, Communications Officer will work closely with and under the direction of the Communications Manager to establish and deliver the Lowitja Institute’s communications agenda in service of enhancing the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Build and maintain a high level of knowledge of current and past and present projects of the Institute to
ensure the role can be undertaken with autonomy, if required, confidence and quality insight • Assist in the production of research outputs of the Lowitja Institute, as well as other policy, knowledge
translation, events, newsletters, and online material • Provide quality assurance on internal documents, such as policies and other material that might be
required, e.g. website. This activity may include writing, editing, copy-editing and some document layout • Assist with brand development, brand awareness and promotion • Assist with communications, media, social media and marketing planning in response to the Institute’s
business plan • Specific duties related to the Lowitja Institute’s activities as a publisher. For example, legal deposit, local
and national archival requirements, upkeep of the publishing style guide, upkeep of the core distribution list
• Any other duties as required by your supervisor. SELECTION CRITERIA: Essential: • Knowledge and understanding of matters concerning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people • Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people • Proven track record in communications, writing, editing and copy-editing with tertiary qualifications in a
relevant discipline • Professional sensitivity when working and communicating with and for diverse stakeholders • Experience in editing high-quality reports, newsletters, and other similar publications • High level written and oral communication skills • A demonstrated ability in project management • High level computer skills, with experience using relevant software and Microsoft Office • The ability to work as an effective team member as well as being able to work independently • Demonstrated administration and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet
tight timelines • The ability to undertake travel, which may include overnight stays. Highly Desirable: • Relevant post graduate qualifications • Experience with media work such as writing media releases and liaison with the press • Experience with social media activity on behalf of an organisation • Marketing and promotion, including of events.
