Key Job Responsibilities
Primary interface and point of contact with on-island Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) sites/scopes and whole of island environmental, biodiversity and quarantine management issues.
Supports the Environmental and Quarantine Superintendent, including interface responsibilities with Perth environment team and other disciplines.
Coordination of environmental management of contractor activities for those contractors who have an operational and maintenance role.
Development and management of Environmental and Quarantine Management programs and systems on site relevant to construction activities.
Day to day support and supervision of the Environmental Monitoring Coordinator (B2B) and Environmental Interface Coordinator (B2B).
Primary interface and liaison with WA Oil Environmental team to facilitate consistency of on-island environmental management and advice.
Support environmental compliance inspections and audits of Project work sites, and participate in third party and regulator inspections and audits of field activities.
Day to day interface with members of the integrated Environmental and Quarantine team in relation to understanding work scopes and construction activities.
Unique complexity that should be considered when evaluating this position:
The Lead Environmental and Quarantine Interface Coordinator role commenced as part of the environmental approval conditions for the project due to the presence of DPaW officers on island from the start of construction. This position played a key role in managing the interface with the DPaW officers on-island and developing relationships and processes in the early stages.
Although this interface still occurs, the relationships and processes are now in place and the time and resources required have reduced significantly. As a result this position has evolved and now primarily supports the Environmental and Quarantine Superintendent and manages the systems and processes integral to the Environment and Quarantine Team. The position has also taken responsibility for the coordination of environmental management of contractor activities for those contractors who havean operational and maintenance role.
This is a site based back-to-back position, requiring a high degree of initiative, diplomacy and coordination skills.
Position competencies and experience requirements:
– A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management and/or equivalent experience.
– Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing environmental education systems and processes.
– Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills.
– Experience in field implementation of environmental management and/or monitoring programs for industrial facilities,
construction projects and/or operating facilities in Western Australia.
– Knowledge of relevant Western Australian and Commonwealth environmental legislation, with experience in
interfacing with regulatory agencies and auditing.
– Experience in incident investigation, emergency response, land clearing and/or fire management would be highly
