As part of a multidisciplinary team within Lake Macquarie Mental Health Service (LMMHS), provide assessment and care co-ordination to people experiencing mental health issues that addresses their psycho-social and functional needs. This position ensures the provision of quality, client centred interventions within a recovery framework that promotes wellness and enables functional independence, social empowerment and enrichment.

The classification for this position is Level 3, however if there are no appropriate Level 3 applicants, applications from Level 1 and 2 Allied Health Professional, classified either Occupational Therapy and Social Work, will be considered with appointment at the level commensurate with the applicants years of experience. The selection criteria for this position reflects the requirements for a Level 3 applicant. Responses from Level 1 or 2 applicants need to demonstrate their level of competence with regard to the same criteria and their ability to work towards Level 3. The expected performance of the incumbent will be commensurate with his/her years of experience and current level at commencement of appointment.
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic mental health clinician with a passion for engaging with clients in an acute setting and working within a multidisciplinary team environment to provide evidence based interventions.
The successful applicant will be a creative clinical problem solver with the ability to contribute to the ongoing development of the service. You will be eager to continue developing your skills in the mental health sector.
A “typical” day in the service may involve:
Engaging and working with clients who have an acute mental illness
Utilising evidence based clinical models such as DBT, CBT, ACT and motivational interviewing to work with clients to assist them to manage their illness and achieve their goals
Attending meetings and discussions with colleagues to review the needs of clients, prioritise workloads and collaborate on projects
Networking and liaising with other services to ensure client needs are addressed
This position is located in Lake Macquarie, New South Wales (near Newcastle).

Must hold a degree in Occupational Therapy, with full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or Social Work with eligibility for membership of the AASW
Demonstrated ability to independently problem-solve and set priorities in the assessment and case management of clients with a mental illness and their families/carers
Extensive knowledge of culturally respectful interventions associated with: individual casework, clinical interventions and group work with people who have mental health issues and their families / carers
Demonstrated application of a professional value base in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with complex presentations
Demonstrated ability to provide supervision and consultation to staff within mental health, and other professionals both internal and external to mental health services
Evidence of ability to build and maintain cooperative professional and therapeutic relationships with key stakeholders, patients and their families/carers through the application of well-developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit patients and their families/carers
Current Drivers Licence (NSW eligibility)
This position requires a Working With Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
