  • Healthy Land and Water is seeking an experienced, highly motivated and passionate Communications Officer to join their Corporate Communication team.

    The position will play a key role in supporting the delivery of communication activities to support the organisation’s strategic direction.

    About us Healthy Land and Water is a new entity focused on the health of South East Queensland’s natural assets. It resulted from a merger of two of Queensland’s leading natural resource management groups – Healthy Waterways and SEQ Catchments.

    As we embark on a new phase in natural resource management, we are looking for a versatile and experienced Communications Officer with a passion for South East Queensland’s waterways and landscapes. The Communications Officer will work across the full range of communications activities, including branding, media relations, social and digital communications, corporate and internal communications, and stakeholder management.

    About you You are a highly energetic, enthusiastic and passionate degree-qualified person, looking to make a difference to people and the environment in South East Queensland. You are a versatile communications professional, with skills across print, digital and video content production. You are proactive and self-sufficient, with an interest in science and conservation, and can confidently pitch stories to media outlets, manage relationships with partners and stakeholders, and advise staff on a broad range of communications activities.

    You have strong writing skills, and are able to produce scientifically accurate and compelling content for a wide range of audiences and platforms. You understand the need to operate strategically and you work well in a team, while remaining self-sufficient and proactive. You don’t mind crossing into other areas of work where required and thrive on the variability of working in a small dedicated organisation.

    Selection criteria

    • Degree qualified in journalism, communications or similar.
    • High level written and oral communications skills.
    • Experience using social media platforms for strategic communications.
    • Proven understanding of the media and what makes a news story.
    • Experience with or willingness to learn website content management systems.
    • Enthusiasm and energy to contribute to a busy communications team.
    • High level of attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
    • Experience with or willingness to learn Adobe design software, particularly InDesign and Photoshop.
    • Ability to contribute to event coordination.
    • Demonstrated ability to work within a team while remaining proactive and self-sufficient.
