Glengala Primary School is a small primary school located in West Sunshine, 24kms from Melbourne on a large, well-developed site. We are a school where students can learn and grow in a supportive, respectful and inclusive environment. The development of positive and supportive relationships with students and their families forms the basis of all our work.

Our terrific school community embraces over 30 different cultures and includes a number of families that receive support from the government and some students who are funded under the Program for Students with Disabilities. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and progressive school community.

Currently our school operates 4 co-teaching grades which utilise a variety of flexible learning spaces along with the specialist areas of Arts, Music, Physical Education, Science & our LOTE Auslan. eLearning is well resourced across the school and supported in learning spaces through access to iPads, Interactive Whiteboards, laptops and other devices.

We have a combination of recently graduated and experienced staff members who are friendly, approachable and committed to achieving the best learning outcomes for all of our students. In 2015 we introduced co-teaching and the creative use of teaching spaces across our school, requiring collective responsibility for the entire cohort of students at each multi-age year level. Our moto is ‘Every Child Achieves’.

Selection Criteria

SC1. Demonstrated ability in the safe use of gardening and maintenance equipment as relevant to the position.

SC2. Demonstrated reliability, punctuality and ability to work independently and manage time appropriately.

SC3. Capacity to undertaken routine tasks across a range of maintenance and gardening functions.

SC4. Highly developed interpersonal skills related to working in an environment that includes staff, students, parents, community members and industry personnel.

Role

This position requires a motivated individual willing to undertake a range of functions mainly in the area of general grounds maintenance, general building maintenance and equipment repairs. Ideally the successful applicant should be experienced in these tasks and be familiar with the needs and working of a school. The role includes establishing a regular program including:

Gardens and Lawns

  • Maintaining all grass areas including watering, mowing, trimming and edging.
  • Trim trees or any unsafe limbs.
  • Controlling weeds.
  • Maintaining all existing garden beds including edging, weeding, pruning, planting, mulching and watering.
  • Establishing new garden beds as directed.
  • Other duties as determined by school administration.

Building and Courtyards

  • Checking and emptying spouting and downpipes of all leaf/litter.
  • Sweeping all paved areas of the school grounds on at least once a week.
  • Weekly retrieval of items from roof.
  • Moving furniture and equipment.
  • Assist with functions.
  • Closing and locking of gates.
  • Gurney pressure cleaning of buildings and paths.
  • Collect hardware items as required.
  • Check roof, downpipes, gutters, spouting.
  • Clear ground drains.
  • Other duties as determined by school administration.

Garbage

  • Clear grounds of litter.
  • Empty bins as required.
  • Other duties as determined by school administration.

External Boundary Fences

  • Weekly inspections outside for defects and pothole hazards
  • Maintain school grounds to a high standard including garden beds, oval, nature strips are neat & litter free.
  • Daily graffiti inspections and removal.
  • Other duties as determined by school administration.

This position will require attendance 5hrs per day, twice a week. Days will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
