  • Gidgee Healing is an Aboriginal community controlled health service, currently providing Primary Health Care; Maternal and Child Health and Preventative Health programs in the North West and Lower Gulf regions.

    To improve the mental health of Aboriginal males, Gidgee Healing is implementing the MomenTIM program across it catchment area. This program aims to address the increased need for early intervention and culturally responsive positive pathways for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander males aged 12-25 years in Mount Isa.

    An exciting opportunity is available for the right person to join an enthusiastic and committed team of Preventative Health professionals and make a direct impact on the social emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander males aged 1225 years in the Mount Isa community.

    The successful applicant for this position is based in Mount Isa with travel across North West Communities.

    Key Duties include:

    • Plan and deliver the MomenTIM components ; specifically education program into schools and communities;
    • Undertake the distribution of program surveys, their collection, and ensure appropriate records of all program activities are maintained, including writing reports;
    • Provide pastoral care and advocacy to Aboriginal male youth and their families;
    • Facilitate client access to support networks and health information/program.

    Selection Criteria:

    • Demonstrated understanding to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
    • Demonstrated ability to project-manage including planning, implementing and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes and budget.
    • Demonstrated organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate a range of tasks, negotiate timeframes, and handle competing priorities in order to meet tight deadlines.
    • Demonstrated understanding of local community services and other stakeholders and their role in providing services to youth.
    • Demonstrated developed interpersonal skills for communicating and/or negotiating with internal and external stakeholders and in order to effectively promote views and policies, while also demonstrating respect for sensitivity and confidentially of issues handled.
    • Computer literacy with experience using MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and the ability to rapidly learn new systems.
    • Mental Health First Aid Training and the ability to support youth within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
    • Diploma of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health is preferred, or equivalent qualification, and/or relevant equivalent experience
    • The ability to travel with a current C Class Drivers Licence within your jurisdiction
    • Working with Children and Young People (“Blue card”) check that allows you to work with this specified group within the jurisdiction.
