Provide clinical management to consumers of the Specialist Mental Health Services for Older People (SMHSOP) on the Central Coast. Primarily the focus of this position will be on the assessment and management of older people under the care of the SMHOPS Community Team at Wyong Hospital. This will involve working with the multidisciplinary team which includes other old age psychiatrist(s), registrars, nursing and allied health staff. As part of the team it is also expected that the successful applicant will initiate and participate in clinical teaching and quality improvement.

An interest in ECT and its administration is desirable

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Central Coast Mental Health Service, Central Coast Local Health District.

Applicants should have Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

This position provides clinical management for consumers of the Specialist Mental Health Services for Older People (SMHSOP) on the Central Coast. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Selection Criteria
Qualified medical practitioner registered in NSW

Recognised specialist qualification, Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award or within six (6) months or substantial comparative pathway

Appropriate experience and knowledge to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Old Age Psychiatry

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment

Demonstrated commitment to teaching and research

Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies

Sound knowledge and understanding of the NSW Mental Health Act and its application or similar legislation in another jurisdiction
