Salary Classification: Clerk Grade 7/8 ($72,172 – $79,889 pro-rated) with a total remuneration package of up to $88,557 per annum

Employment Status: Temporary part-time, 4 days (28 hours) /week for a period up to 11 months (maternity leave cover)

About the Australian Museum

The Australian Museum (AM) operates within the NSW Department of Planning and Environment and was founded in 1827 as the first museum in Australia. The AM provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. The AM holds more than 18 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections and develops programs, exhibitions and school and community education initiatives onsite, online and offsite. The AM’s purpose is to make nature, Indigenous cultures & science accessible and relevant to everyone.

The AMRI Science & Learning Division is comprised of the following five Branches: AMRI Education and Lifelong Learning, Life Science, and Digital Collections and Citizen Science, Lizard Island research Station and Australian Centre for Wildlife Genomics.

About the role

The Manager, School Science and Events is as part of the AMRI Education team and is responsible for management of the School Science and Events unit including the Australian Museum Science Festival, Science on the Road outreach initiatives and other science education events that arise. The position holder manages the strategic development of these programs including the design, production and delivery of new content; the maintenance and refurbishment of existing programs; school and community communication; administration and financial management. The position holder is also responsible for staff, contractors, volunteers, presenters, exhibitors, and interns as well as coordinating external promotion and funding opportunities.

Essential Requirements

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or a related field and extensive experience in developing and implementing successful marketing strategies and campaigns, creative and concept development.
  • Demonstrated success in an event management with experience in successfully developing relationships and partnerships and securing funding for ongoing projects.
  • Adequate knowledge and experience to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in the Role Description.
