About the role

You will provide a broad range of technical support and guidance to our growing team. We are looking for someone to work 20 hours a week for 6 months who is willing and able to:

Helpdesk/Technical Support

  • Provides technical support and guidance to users.
  • Installation of workstations, tests, monitors and upgrades in addition to undertaking diagnosis of technical issues and having the ability to resolve via repairs to computer systems, networks and peripherals for example.
  • Monitors the system for failure or errors and reports issues to the Manager
  • Suggests improvements policies and procedures governing how to troubleshoot IT issues, including identification, documentation, distribution and resolution and discussed with IT Manager
  • Assists end users in resolving hardware and software issues by fielding telephone calls and email communication, diagnosing problems and performing troubleshooting activities.
  • Consults with users to ascertain their needs and provides training where necessary


  • Assists in managing all systems, applications, and security and network configurations.
  • Monitors network and ensures data is protected from unauthorized users & access, monitors network usage and resolves access issues.
  • Assists in maintenance of ALG’s email system.
  • Assists in maintenance of ALG’s telecommunications system
  • Resolves network performance issues.
  • Assists in managing user account information, including rights, security and systems groups
  • Identifies, reports, resolves and documents any security violations
  • Ensures adherence to relevant laws

The key selection criteria for this role includes:

  • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Organisation and time management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team
  • Ability to work under pressure, use ones initiative and remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with a diverse group of staff across educational and broader functions in a scholarly and cooperative environment.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Ideally degree qualified in relevant area or working towards this
  • The successful candidate will be comfortable in the face of adversity
