The Archdiocese of Hobart is the central body of the Roman Catholic Church in Tasmania. The Church offers a diverse range of services to Tasmanians, which are delivered by a number of agencies comprised of Catholic organisations and organisations of Catholics.

A permanent, full-time position is available for an experienced communications professional to join the Archdiocese of Hobart’s Media and Communications Unit.

The Media and Communications Coordinator is responsible for proactively managing media and public relations activities for the Church Office, CatholicCare Tasmania, and Catholic Education in Tasmania. This is a senior role offering variety, flexibility, and family-friendly hours.

Key duties include:

  • Manage media enquiries and interview requests (media liaison);
  • Produce accurate and original copy by sourcing story ideas and analysing Catholic, industry and political developments and trends;
  • Plan and execute a range of media events and opportunities,
  • Manage production of the Archdiocesan newspaper, The Catholic Standard, and;
  • Monitor, analyse and communicate public relations and media results on a monthly basis.

Reporting to the Manager Media and Communications, the Media and Communications Coordinator will be expected to possess a thorough understanding of the life and mission of the Catholic Church, and have a personal commitment to the identity and mission of the Archdiocese of Hobart.

To be considered for this role, you will be an experienced communicator who can define and articulate the Church’s position on various issues. Tertiary qualifications in public relations, journalism or communications highly regarded, however communicators with demonstrated significant professional competencies are also invited to apply.
