Position Summary
In-Prison Support Worker

  • Full time, 5-year fixed term position
  • Based in Brisbane
  • $55k base salary plus generous salary packaging options

Australian Community Support Organisation (ACSO) is a non-government, not for profit agency with a mission to help people transition from prison, assist them in the community, stop them from re-offending and intervene to divert others from committing crime. The QLD Department of Justice via Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) has adopted a new model for the delivery of transitional services to individuals exiting prison, ACSO work in partnership with QCS in supporting offenders with high risk and complex needs.

Reporting to the Coordinator, the In-Prison Support Worker will be based on-site within the prison environment and form part of a wider ACSO team delivering a flexible, dynamic and best-practice regional offender support services.

They are primarily responsible for:

  • Responding to prisoner referral enquiries and requests
  • Providing relevant information and referral services in accordance with the transitional and future goals of the inmate
  • Setting and conducting benchmark assessments with inmates who form part of the post-release program
  • Identifying required support services and coordinate referral pathways (e.g. housing, employment, mental health, AOD)

This role would suit someone who shares a passion for human services and working within the justice system. To be considered for this position you will bring:

  • Prior experience working within the human services field; mental health, homelessness, or drug & alcohol services
  • Sound knowledge of the range of health, welfare and community agencies within the region
  • Exposure to prison services/operations
  • A demonstrated ability to work with clients who have complex and diverse needs
  • A qualification (Cert IV or above) in a related field
  • Experience working with youth or young adults (17yr +) would be advantageous

In addition, the following are essential selectin criteria:

  • Level 1 first aid
  • Eligibility to obtain a blue card
  • Criminal record check

This position is remunerated in accordance with the SCHADS Award, level 3.2 and is eligible for salary sacrificing benefits.
